Family & Friends - Friends

We all need godly friends in our lives. Besides family, who do we go to when we have exciting news? Who do you go to when you are struggling and need a shoulder to cry on? Who do you question when you are trying to make the right decision? We all go to our friends.

Godly friendships are essential to have. They influence our lives and play a role in shaping our world. Other than marriage, God wants us to communicate and have relationships with others. It makes us healthy as long as they are godly friends.

We all know the story of the men who took their sick friend to Jesus so He could heal him. When they couldn't get to Jesus, they made a hole in the roof where Jesus stood and let the sick man down through the hole to where Jesus could heal him. We all need friends like this. That is an example of good friends!

We need godly friends to help us through tough times.

"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up." - Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

We need godly friends for accountability. They know you and can see when you are getting off track. If the friendship is strong, they will know they have permission to encourage godly decisions.

"Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful." - Proverbs 27:6

We need godly friends to bring us closer to God.

"As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend." - Proverbs 27:17

Today, pray for godly friendships in your life. If you don't have godly friends, ask the Holy Spirit to bring them to you. Pray for friendships that would build you up and not tear you down. Ask for friends that will be godly and that will help bring you closer to God. Also, pray that God would remove any ungodly friendships that might interfere with your relationship with Him. Finally, pray for your friends, those who might be sick or struggling. Pray for friends, co-workers, and neighbors that might not have a relationship with God. Ask God to draw them closer to Him. Pray that your friendships will be blessed and that you will be a blessing to others.
